I am posting because I am having a menstrual problem that I have not been able to receive much help with from my doctors. I just started to take Milk Thistle after coming across this website and seeing the great results others have had while using it.
My problem is, over the last year, I have developed endometrial polyps in the muscles of my uterus, accompanied by aggravating acne that has not been helped by tradition over the counter medications or, prescription medicines. The prescription medicines have some times been too harsh and made my skin 10 times worse than when I applied the medicines in the first place and the over the counter medicines have had the same effect at times.
In Sept. 2004, I had a D&C surgery to remove the polyps because I have been having abnormal bleeding. By the next month, two fibroids popped up in their place. With the additional / abnormal bleeding I do each month, my skin breaks out terrible at times. On top of all of this, I have migraines that, with the addition hormones surging through my body every month get aggravated.
I am now on birth control pills to slow the progression of the growth of the fibroids but... they have not stopped the abnormal bleeding. Hence the additional hormones, hence the more time I have for breakouts per month.
My question to you is, how do I know how many mgs. each day of Milk Thistle I should be taking? I am now on a 175 mg. once daily tablet.
Also, how soon should I expect to see some results? And... will my skin get worse before it gets better? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bad Kitty,
Sorry for the delay in writing, but I have been traveling across the country to visit my sister (for college graduation).

I can tell you that from the very basics you layed out in your post, your body is begging for a change.  If the  fibroids are small, it is still early, and Chinese herbal medicine is a very powerful direction.  Milk Thistle will help the liver, and the acne, but your true direction will need to be something more directly focused on your total body.  I point many people to the, "diet for liver disease article" that I posted.  This will be a good start for you.  But, I can't say enough times, Chinese Herbs!  You will need a local physician that is skilled in OBGYN herbal medicine.  I know some great physicians in California, Oregon, and of course Boulder Colorado.  You are looking at at least 3-6 months of herbs in my experience.

In terms of dosage of milk thistle, dosage ranges from 140 to 420 milligrams daily.  I prefer liquid extracts to pills, and alcohol as a base to glycerin.  There is much about this on the website here.  You should notice some results in a week or two.  The results will be faster the higher the dosage you have, but the higher the dosage, the greater the odds of having your skin break out at first.  Best of luck to you!  Keep us informed, and if you have any more questions, or need a referrel for an herbalist, let us know.  Of course, if you need more Milk Thistle, you can purchase ours here.

Thank you so very much! This response is very appreciated. I will look into trying the liquid form of Milk Thistle instead of the pills. I will also read the "Diet for Liver Disease" article you posted and at least give it some consideration. I've gone the other route (prescription medicines, foods that are not too healthy for me, etc.) this couldn't hurt. I will keep you posted on my progress. My best regards to you. Bad Kitty!
