Hi i just had a hepa b screeening and the results says that I am infectious... I was diagnosed with hepa b last 1998 and during that time the doctor said that I've developed immunity against the virus and would just be a healthy carrier. My mom had herself checked and found out that she also has hepa-b, same with my older brother but my younger siblings' results were negative. My dad didn't get it since he had vaccination before he met my mom. We are asian and the doctor said that I got it from my mom. So that makes me a chronic patient. I'm confused. How can my antibodies or immune system give way and make me infectious when back in 1998 (when I was 20 yrs. old) I wasn't?. I am taking milk thistle 350 mg 3x/day with vit. B and C complex and I'm hoping that my hepa-b would go back to the same "non-infectious" stage that I had back in 1998.

My second question is how can I prevent myself from infecting others in my household especialy when they haven't got any vaccinations yet?

Third is: Now that I am infectious, does it mean that I could possibly infect my boyfriend through sexual intercourse even if he's vaccinated?

Please help me with this. I feel awkward in consulting with doctors and I can't find really good doctors who can educate/explain this to me.  I'm the only person in the family who puts so much effort in research to be educated with what's really going on? I remember a doctor recommending milk thistle and justified it with my research on the internet, I am now taking milk thistle and Vit C and B complex which helps me fight stress and fatigue. The jaundice is also not evident and I have better and fairer complexion. The doctor also prescribed me with carnitine orotate. Would you recommend that I take it along with the milk thistle and vitamins? I researched it on the internet and it also protects and repairs liver cells.

I am also aware of the pegasys, lamuvidine, aceclovir etc. And these are very expensive drugs. I don't have enough finances to take these so I;m taking the alternative/herbal way.

Thank you so much and this site is very helpful. Thank you for all the support!

Sorry, I felt like I wanted to keep the reply to this one in "Hepatitis," so I moved it from general Chat.  Hepatitis B is one of the largest epidemics in the US, especially among health care physicians.  We are all pushed to get vaccinations for it, and many do.  Hepatitis B can last in dry blood for up to two weeks, and of course in all forms of saliva, etc.  For some people, it does become chronic.  I can't remember the exact figures on this, as Hep B is not my specialty.  I think you are going in the right direction with the Milk Thistle and the Vitamins.  If you can use an alcohol extract, it is much more effective than pills for the Milk Thistle, as the active ingredient is only alcohol soluble.  Because of this, with pills you will only see a 20% absorption rate.

As far as why the infection came back, it is hard to say.  In Chinese medicine, we don't only analyze the organ itself, but look at the "liver system" which should have never been translated into "liver system."  In Chinese Medicine "liver" controlls the menstrual flow, the emotions, and many other functions.  If the emotions are off due to stress, it can be triggered.  If the liver gets pushed with recreational drugs or alcohol, it can be effected.  It is a very sensitive organ, but heals very quickly.

When it comes to infecting others, and your boy friend, I would hold off until you are cleared.  If you are "contagious" then you are very contagious.  Use your own utensils and plates, your own towel, and your own bed.  If you bleed at all, make sure no one else is exposed.

This phase will pass, and I don't have a lot of faith in most western prescription medications as they usually put a high burdon on the Liver.  If you are near an acupuncturist that is also a skilled herbalist (or if you are near a solid old school herbalist even better) then there is a LOT of support they can offer you.

Oriental Medicine is VERY strong medicine for the liver, and can provide a lot of support.  It is also a chance to dive into the bounty of your genealogical heritage.  It is true that strong medicine has bad taste (just eat an Advil or aspirin, yuk!).  But, you will feel a lot better fairly quickly if you find the right herbalist.  What state / region of the country are you located in?  I know a lot of good herbalists in Hawaii, Colorado, and California.  If you are anywhere else, you can check out

It is best that you consult your doctor. It is much safer and effective.
