Hi, I just found your wonderful webpage.  I'm afraid I didn't know about your product beforehand or I would have bought the Skye Herbal Milk Thistle product..... at least it can be my next choice when my current supply has run out. Wink

I have a question though.  After reading several webpages tonight about Milk Thistle I am concerned as to whether it is safe for me to take.  I had a problem several years ago (a neck injury) that resulted in a blood clot in the brain.  Although it is stable and I don't take any medication for it (except maybe a baby aspirin somedays...,) my  neurologist did tell me that the only medications I must stay away from now are ones containing hormones....ex. birth control pill.  That would apparently be dangerous for someone with this problem.

Now tonight I read on a webpage that anyone with a "hormone-dependent condition" should not take Milk Thistle because it is "estrogenic like", etc.  I'm not sure what to make of this.  Can someone please advise as I have begun already dosing myself with Milk Thistle but I am concerned about continuing if it would be a problem for my health.

Thanks so much for any advice you can give.

I can only tell you the facts as far as I have researched.  Consult your physician if you have any specific medical questions.  The official chemical constituents of Milk Thistle are posted on our website at:Milk Thistle Seed Chemical Constituents.  I don't see any hormone related "phyto estrogens"  in the list.  I can tell you that Red Clover is phyto-estrogen(ish), and yet is a mild blood thinner (like aspirin).  It is included in our main extract.   I would say that Milk Thistle is safe as I have NEVER come across any medical literature saying otherwise in relation to blood clots, but again I would consult your physician.

If you do decide to order with us, make sure to specify in your order that you want milk thistle single extract and not the combination (to avoid the Red Clover just in case).  We have not made the single extract available to the public yet as our label is still in design, but can make an exception for you when you are ready for your next round of Milk Thistle.  If you have any more questions, feel free to post or email us directly.  -Mark
